Become Your Puppy’s Pack Leader

Many puppy owners make the error of worrying too much about the puppy’s bed or treats. They don’t spend much time worrying about how and what their puppy will learn.

A puppy requires nutritious food as well as a warm and safe place to call home. A strong leader is an equally important and vital biological requirement for puppies.

Puppies naturally follow the leader of their pack. A pack leader is defined as strong, stable, and consistent. This trait is often forgotten by new puppy owners. There have been clients who were strong leaders at work, but then fell apart when they got home. They are often puzzled by why their dogs don’t behave.

Dogs and puppies sense confidence levels and will assume control if they see us as weak. Bad behaviors such as excessive barking, pulling on the leash, and anxiety will result when dogs or puppies are in control.

Your puppy’s pack leader is the most important thing you can do. This doesn’t mean that your puppy has to be six months old, or that he needs to be bad. You must show leadership right from the beginning to help your puppy grow into a happy, healthy dog.

These are some key points to keep in mind when you’re a pack leader.

Make sure you have time each day to give your pet mental exercise. These needs will be met and your dog will receive affection as a reward.

Make a schedule that includes a 45-minute daily power-walk in your morning. This is crucial for your dog’s mental and physical health.

Get your entire family involved in the process of getting a dog home. Before the puppy arrives, discuss their responsibilities .

Choose a breed that suits your needs. To be physically and mentally happy, active breeds like herding and hunting dogs require more exercise.

When you leave the house, always walk ahead of your dog. This will let your dog know who is leading the pack.

When you are walking, ensure that your dog does not pull you along the street. Keep your dog behind you or to your side. Doing this will show your dog you are the boss.

Provide something for the puppy to do before you share food or water. This will help the dog earn his reward. Your puppy can be trained to do the Sit or Down command.

Save money for unanticipated events, such as medical bills or training classes. A well-trained, healthy dog is a great pet.

If a puppy’s new family does not learn these lessons, he will fail. Remember that puppies do not crave fancy treats or beds. They need you to be their stable pack leader and show love in a way they can understand.
